“Come on out and make a difference! Being a part of PTG board is really rewarding because it benefits our kids directly. Planning and running the events are such a fun experience too. All of us PTG members have a lot of passion, energy and love for making our kids’ school life the better one. We would love to see more parents participate in volunteering for the PTG sponsored events for benefit of our kids and school.”
– The PTG Board
The Mary, Star of the Sea ELC Parent-Teacher Guild or PTG is comprised of parents, the principal or a designate and a teacher representative. Parents serve as a board that consists of officers and chairpersons of standing committees. Committees include special projects, hospitality and public relations, special programs and fund-raising. PTG members are active during the school year and take hiatus during the summer months. Members may serve as long as their child is enrolled at the ELC but usually serve for a term of one school year.
The objectives of the PTG are:
- To act as an auxiliary to Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center.
- To promote educational goals of the school through projects, programs, committees, social functions and general membership meetings.
- To bring into a closer relationship the home and this school, so that parents and teachers may cooperate in the education of all children.
PTG hosts several special events during the school year:
- Make a Difference Day PTG Project
- PTG Spaghetti Dinner
- Christmas Trolley Rides
- Snow Day
- Chinese New Year Celebration
- Kindergarten Graduation
- East Honolulu Food Festival (EHFF)
“Our mission is to help parents enrich our children’s early educaion experience while attending Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center. The monies we raise during the year are used to defray the costs for playground improvement and equipment. Additionally, we have used the monies toward paying for classroom materials and providing for Teacher Wish list items and other curriculum enhancements.
