Over thirty eight years ago, Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center (ELC) opened its door as a parochial, Catholic Montessori preschool serving children ages 2-6 years old. Today, under the direction of Mary, Star of the Sea Church and the Hawaii Catholic School Department, the ELC serves children from all faiths, geographical areas and socio-economic backgrounds.

Our team-oriented approach to teaching, learning and child-care extends beyond the school to include our parents, grandparents, families, friends, alumni and the community. Contributions of your time, talent and treasure will help provide the means and opportunities to create the best possible learning environment for our children.

Please make your tax-deductible gift today to the Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center’s ACEE Campaign (Annual Contribution in Early Education). It will make a difference!

At Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center, students are nurtured and taught in an educationally excellent and uniquely innovative, Montessori environment. Montessori education involves the prepared environment and a personalized program to meet the needs of children in global, 21st century learning.

Research shows that access to high quality early childhood programs is an investment in the future lives of children. Research has found that in the early years of a child’s life, from birth to five years of age, the brain develops rapidly, and by the time a child is 3 years old, it has reached 80% of the size of an adult-sized brain. By the time the child is 5 years old, their brain is 90% of an adult sized brain. Young children have critical, sensitive periods, or window of opportunities for learning and brain development. Dr. Maria Montessori called this the child’s“absorbent mind.”

A school environment that is enriched with hands-on and developmentally appropriate educational materials provides many opportunities for the child’s brain to “absorb” and internalized the learning experiences. Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center is committed to providing the best possible learning experience for young children.
